Cub Scout Rank Requirements

There is a lot of information on the Internet about Scout advancement.  Two good locations are the Viking Council BSA web site links and U.S. Scouting Service Project.  Here you can find the requirements for Cub Scout rank and the Webelos Activity Badges as well as the requirements for Boy Scout rank, merit badges, and special awards.

Webelos to Scout Transition

Webelos to Scout Transition was presented at the December, 1998, Boy Scout Roundtable by Bill Trinka of Manitou District, Indianhead Council.  Ensuring that all Webelos Scouts transition in an orderly manner takes advance planning.  This document provides you with ideas and tips for the period of time before and after the Webelos bridge into your Troop.

Another good resource is Bears to Boy Scouts: Webelos -- It's a New Program.  This was presented at the 1999 Indianhead Pow Wow by Jerome Malmquist.  The Tiger, Wolf, and Bear programs have prepared boys for their next step in scouting.  The Webelos program is quite different from the previous programs boys have been exposed to and is an introduction to Boy Scouting.  This paper provides you with guidance for the transition from Cub Scouting to Boy Scouts.

Webelos Special Badges and Activity Pins Form

This form allows you to accurately track and record all advancement badges and activity pins for the Webelos Scouts in your den.  Each Scout can have his individual record.  The form is available for download in two formats:

Merit Badges

The U.S. Scouting Service Project has a listing of merit badge requirements. Check the Viking Council Merit Badge Program.  Another good site is MeritBadge.com. It lists not only the requirements but lets you down load worksheets and forms for the boys to use.

Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook is available from the Boy Scouts of America Web site.  If you have questions on the Eagle program or other advancement questions, contact TBD at TBD

BSA Forms

The only forms that are permitted to be on the Metro Lakes District Web site are those forms authorized by the BSA Supply Division, the Office of the Chief Scout Executive, and Viking Council BSA.  See Scouting Forms on the Boy Scouts of America web site, or Council Forms and Pubs.

Guide to Safe Scouting

The Guide to Safe Scouting, found on line at the National BSA web site or at our Council web site, is a unit leader's guide for current policies and procedures to safe activities.  The purpose of this document is to prepare adult leaders to conduct Scouting activities in a safe and prudent manner.  The policies and guidelines have been established because of a real need to protect members from known hazards that have been identified through eighty-plus years of experience.  Limitations on certain activities should not be viewed as stumbling blocks; rather, policies and guidelines are best described as stepping-stones toward safe and enjoyable adventures.

Scouting Resources on the Web

• Cub Bobwhite's Pow Wow OnLine is a great resource for Cub Scout Leaders. Here are ideas for Tiger Cubs, Cub Scouts, Webelos, and even some Boy Scout stuff.  Get leader tips, Blue and Gold ideas, songs, skits, and much, much more.
• The Ceremony Table - Cub Scout Leaders! Do you need ceremony ideas. Here is a collection of ceremonies that will certainly fit your needs.
• SCOUTING online This Web site provides Scouts and Scouters with many ideas that can be used in Roundtables, Training, and Eagle Projects.  In addition, there are skits, history, and many other items to improve your program.
• U.S. Scouting Service Project The U.S. Scouting Service Project, the Scouting Web Portal, provides Scouters with documents, Scout graphics, manuals and reference material galore.  Check it out!
• The NetCommish The NetCommish Web site provides all members of the Commissioner Staff online training, resources, net resources and fun stuff.  Check out what this wonderfully prepared site has to offer.
• Baloo's Bugle An online Cub Scout Roundtable featuring monthly program hints for Cub Scouters.
• The MacScouter Electronic resources for Scouters, both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, world-wide.
• The Virtual Cub Leader's Handbook A vast library of Cub Scouting program resources for Cub Scout Leaders and parents of Cubs.  Find information about uniforming, insignia, leadership tools, the Pinewood Derby, clip art, games, songs, ceremonies, activities, recognition awards and much, much more.

• MeritBadge.com This Web site is devoted to Scouting advancement.  You will find lots of information and links to help you work on your advancement requirements.

• The Official Order of the Arrow Web Site This is the location for official information on the Order of the Arrow, Scouting's National Honor Society, and its programs.  Sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America.

• The Virtual Uniform and Insignia Handbook for Cub Scouts will provide you with the latest guidelines on uniforming.  Included are proper uniforming practices for Tiger Cubs, Cubs, Webelos and Den Chiefs as well as Cub Scout Leaders.  The Scouter information applies to both Cub Scout leaders and Boy Scout leaders.
